Mounties in Mission say a man struck and killed by a train in their jurisdiction over the summer still has not been identified, and now they’re asking the public for help determining who he was. The man was struck “sometime before 7:30 a.m.” on July 11, Mission RCMP said in a news release Wednesday, more than three months after the collision occurred. The crash happened on the tracks south of Lougheed Highway, near the intersection with Highway 11, police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. “Despite pursuing various investigative avenues—including reviewing outstanding missing persons reports—police and the B.C. Coroners Service have not yet been able to identify the man, and are now releasing a sketch of him in hopes that someone will recognize him,” the RCMP release reads. Mounties described the man as approximately 160 centimetres—or 5′3″—tall, with a “slim build.” They said it’s unclear whether he was from Mission or another community. Anyone who recognizes the man from the sketch is asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161 and quote file number 2026-9077. “Police remind the public not to cross train tracks outside of designated crossings, and to heed all signs and warnings in the vicinity of railway tracks,” the release concludes.
