A search and rescue helicopter came to the aid of an injured crew member on a cruise ship earlier this week, according to the Canadian Armed Forces. On Tuesday, the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron was called out to the vessel, which was located 182 kilometres northwest of Port Hardy, off the northern tip of Vancouver Island. A CH-149 Cormorant helicopter and CC-295 Kingfisher airplane responded—with the plane arriving first to co-ordinate the medevac with the ship’s captain, as recounted in a news release issued Friday. Two search and rescue technicians aboard the helicopter were lowered onto the deck of the cruise ship, and then the patient and medical staff were hoisted up into the aircraft. The crew member was flown to Comox where they were transferred to an air ambulance. The nature of the patient’s injury and their current status were not disclosed.
