Police in Surrey are asking the public for help identifying a man suspected of fraud. The suspect allegedly used a fake bank draft and identification when purchasing a pickup truck from its owner in the city’s Fleetwood neighbourhood, the Surrey Police Service said in a news release Friday. The SPS shared two blurry photos of the suspect, who it described as a South Asian man with a medium build who is approximately 30 years old and stands 5′8″ tall. He was wearing a green shirt and black pants at the time of the alleged fraud, which happened on Sept. 21, according to police. The seller of the truck called officers from the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit to the scene around 9:20 a.m. on Sept. 22 and told them the transaction had occurred the night before. The truck that was allegedly purchased through fraud is a black 2018 Ford F-150, police said. Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the suspect should call the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and cite file number 26-29409 (SU), police said. Tips can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
