Another Tesla driver was caught sleeping behind the wheel in B.C. last week, according to police. In a social media post, the Coquitlam RCMP says members of the Integrated Road Safety Unit responded to the report and found the driver “sound asleep” with autopilot on. The driver had a novice licence and was ticketed for driving without due care and attention and failing to display an “N” sign. In B.C., it is illegal to use highly automated “self-driving” features on vehicles that have them, like Teslas. Penalties can range from fines between $360 and $2,000 to prison time. In recent months, police have issued a number of reminders to electric vehicle owners after catching drivers catching a snooze with the self-driving feature on. In late August, B.C. Highway Patrol said an officer “was forced to divert from (a) priority call” when a dozing driver was spotted on Highway 1 in Langley. That individual was handed a $368 ticket for not paying attention.
