Allenby Road in Duncan, B.C., is expected to remain closed until spring 2027 as crews continue repairs to a slope damaged by a landslide during severe flooding in November 2021. The revised timeline pushes the anticipated reopening beyond fall 2026. The closure affects the section between Boys and Miller roads “The additional time is required to ensure the safety of citizens and work crews and to restore the road to two-lane traffic,” the Ministry of Transportation and Transit said in a release. Local access maintained during repairs The landslide prompted the closure because of concerns that further slope movement could put drivers at risk. Preparatory work wrapped up in September 2024 and included vegetation clearing and the installation of a 75-metre lock block wall along the affected section. The current phase focuses on permanent slope repairs and additional road safety measures. Although drivers cannot travel through the closed section, access will remain available to nearby businesses, the trailer park and campground near Boys Road. CTV News Vancouver Island contacted businesses in the area to ask about the closure. Those reached did not report an impact on their operations. Drivers are advised to use Highway 1 to get around the closure, allow extra time for their journeys and follow posted signs and instructions from traffic control personnel. The project is being carried out in partnership with Cowichan Tribes. Allenby Road is expected to return to two lane traffic in spring 2027.
