Police are urging parents to check their kids’ Halloween candy after a paperclip was found in a piece of candy that was given out in LaSalle. The LaSalle Police Service said on Sunday, a resident reported their child got a Tootsie Roll with a paperclip embedded in the taffy. Officers said the paperclip was clearly visible and the candy wasn’t eaten. The child went to multiple houses and because of that, it’s not known where the tampered candy came from. The complainant said it was likely collected on Maple Avenue between Matchett Road and Malden Road. “We are asking children and parents to check the candy they collected on Halloween,” said LaSalle Police Chief Michael Pearce. “This should be common practice every year, but we want to ensure families are exercising extra vigilance considering this reported incident.” Photos provided to CTV News by the complainant also show candy with a 2014 expiry date on the wrapper. Officers say if you find candy that has been tampered with, contact police.
