A major fall storm is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds and wet snow to northern Manitoba as we head into the weekend. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a special weather statement for Brochet, Churchill, Leaf Rapids, Lynn Lake, Pukatawagan and Tadoule Lake. According to the weather agency, a major fall storm is headed to the area beginning on Friday. ECCC forecasts that the storm will start out as rain and then transition to heavy, wet snow. The weather agency expects snowfall totals between 15 to 25 centimetres and rainfall totals in the range of 20 to 40 millimetres. The heaviest snowfall accumulations are expected in Brochet and Tadoule Lake. The weather agency also forecasts wind gusts as strong as 90 km/h, warning that this can lead to reduced visibility when combined with snow. Freezing rain is also a possibility with this storm, specifically in Lynn Lake, Tadoule Lake and Brochet. Weather conditions are expected to improve on Sunday as the snow and winds diminish.
