Several communities in Manitoba are under a tornado watch Friday afternoon. Steinbach, Beausejour, Falcon Lake, Lac du Bonnet and Grand Beach, among other communities in the province’s east, are under the yellow watch, issued Friday afternoon by Environment and Climate Change Canada. “Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes,” the alert from ECCC reads. ECCC said the storms could produce tornadoes, wind gusts ranging from 100 to 120 km/h, localized heavy rain and tennis ball-sized hail. The alert said thunderstorms are expected to develop along a cold front sweeping through southeastern Manitoba that will exit the province later in the evening. If a tornado occurs, ECCC said you should go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows.
