A suspect is in custody following a fatal assault in Winnipeg. On August 18, Winnipeg police were called to the 100 block of Young Street for an assault. That’s where they found an injured woman, Brenda Kate Cromarty, inside a home. The 57-year-old woman was brought to hospital for treatment but died on Sept. 20, police said. She was a member of St. Theresa Point First Nation and was living in Winnipeg at the time. Police suspected a 48-year-old woman was behind the alleged assault. They successfully appealed to a Manitoba judge to lay a charge of manslaughter. On Friday, the suspect was located in northern Manitoba and arrested by the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offenders Apprehension Unit. She remains in police custody. The charge has not yet been proven in court.
