It has been nearly seven months since Jessica Biron last saw her second cousin Cassie Reid, who she says was more like a sister to her. “She was like my personal diary,” Biron said. “She knew everything. She was my go-to person.” Cape Breton Regional Police said that on the morning of March 18, they were called to a section of the Louisbourg Highway near Hills Road where a woman’s body had been found near the roadway. They believe she was hit sometime the night before. Police said at the time they were looking for a 2024 or 2025 Buick Encore Avenir of unknown colour. Biron said Reid had just begun what would have been a roughly two-hour walk home from her father’s place when she was struck and killed. “I woke up the next day to a message saying that they found her shoe and when I heard that I just knew that she was gone,” Biron said. CTV Atlantic contacted Cape Breton Regional Police on Monday, who confirmed the matter is still being actively investigated by their Traffic Safety Unit, adding that they would not release any more details due to the ongoing investigation. “Somebody definitely knows something, for sure,” Biron said. A roadside memorial now marks the place near where the 23-year-old mother of four was hit. Biron said the family has not heard anything new for several months. She decided to speak out on behalf of the family in hopes anyone with information might come forward and so her best friend is not forgotten. “I suffer every day and I miss her a lot and it’s definitely not easy,” Biron said. “I try to just make the best out of every day hoping that someone will come up.” No arrests have been made in the case.
