It was an unsettling discovery when an employee at a business owned by Kentville, N.S., Mayor Andrew Zebian walked through the front door of her job to find two bullets lodged in the door. The incident was caught on security camera. At 2 a.m. on Thursday morning, an individual can be seen approaching Zebian’s business in downtown Kentville. After standing in the doorway for a short period of time, the person turns and walks back in the direction they came from. Zebian says the incident has been unnerving. “I have four children and I have a business here and my staff is obviously a little concerned now. So, it is concerning to see that happened in town, my staff felt like it was a direct target,” says Zebian. He says he’s never dealt with any kind of threats or violence at his store, but recently he has in his other job as the town’s mayor. “There have been some threats online. That’s the joy of social media now, everybody can go on and be a keyboard warrior and say what they want, so there’s been some on there, just in the last few weeks,” he says. “The last couple of weeks there have been quite a few issues in town in my other job as mayor. Unrelated to the business, just with some of the issues happening in town with vandalism and other groups, there’s been a lot of rhetoric online.” Zebian says one of the two bullets was live, the other is thought to be a blank. The incident is concerning for long-time residents like Shirley Porter. “Isn’t that terrible, what’s wrong with people?” says Porter. “It’s ridiculous. I think it is too much violence.” Zebian agrees and admits it has taken a toll on everyone involved. “I guess I’ll be a little more cautious when I leave at night for sure and my children when they hear about these things, they get nervous, and of course my staff.” The mayor tells CTV News one person has been arrested in relation to the incident.
