Police say they arrested half a dozen people for impaired driving offences in the Halifax area over the weekend. An RCMP officer first pulled a Honda Civic over around 7 p.m. Friday. The driver was leaving a parking lot in the 3600 block of Hammonds Plains Road in Upper Tantallon. Police say the man was showing signs of alcohol consumption and the officer demanded a roadside breath sample. “The driver, a 43-year-old Tantallon man who held a licence with a zero-blood alcohol condition, provided a sample of 24 mg%,” reads an RCMP news release. “He was issued a summary offence ticket for failing to comply with licence conditions and received a 24-hour licence suspension.” Around the same time, another officer was patrolling a parking lot in the 5200 block of Highway 7 in Porters Lake. Police say they noticed the driver of a Hyundai Accent was not wearing a seatbelt. The officer pulled him over and reportedly saw signs of impairment. Police say the driver did not give a suitable breath sample and he was arrested for failing to comply with a demand. The 31-year-old Lawrencetown man is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date. Police say they also issued the man a summary offence ticket for failing to wear a seatbelt and his vehicle was towed. The third incident happened later that night at a checkpoint at the intersection of Highway 7 and Taylor Park Road in Spry Harbour. A Dodge Ram entered the checkpoint around 8:35 p.m. Police say the driver didn’t stop at first and had to be directed to do so. “While speaking with the driver, the officer observed signs of impairment and demanded a roadside breath sample,” police said. “The driver, a 53-year-old Ship Harbour woman, provided a sample of 29 mg% and was issued a 24-hr licence suspension.” At the same time, RCMP officers stopped a Ford Fusion leaving a parking lot in the 0-100 block of Marketway Lane in Timberlea. Police say the officer demanded a roadside breath sample from the driver after seeing signs of impairment. The 51-year-old Timberlea man allegedly failed and was arrested for impaired driving. The RCMP says he later provided breath samples of 190 mg% and 180 mg% at the Tantallon detachment. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date. Sunday incidents The next two incidents happened Sunday afternoon. Around 3 p.m., officers responded to a report of a “suspicious occurrence” in the Hammonds Plains Road and Westwood Boulevard area in Upper Tantallon. Police say a man asked a passerby for help removing a woman from his vehicle. Officers were able to find the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 43-year-old man from Halifax Regional Municipality, was arrested for impaired driving. He was taken to the Tantallon RCMP Detachment nearby. Police say drug recognition evaluation determined the man was impaired by a drug. He was later released and is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date. Around 3:30 p.m., an officer looked up a vehicle’s licence plate in the 3200 block of Highway 2 in Fall River. Police say the registration was expired. They also allege the driver provided expired registration and insurance documents during a traffic stop. “The officer also observed signs of impairment and demanded a roadside breath sample, which resulted in a fail,” reads the release. “The driver, a 44-year-old Wellington man, was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Lower Sackville RCMP Detachment, where he provided breath samples of 100 mg% and 90 mg%.” Police say he was issued summary offence tickets for no insurance and expired registration.
