A group of young foxes are well on their way to recovery, thanks to the help of local wildlife rescue organizations. Simcoe County Emergency Animal Response (SCEAR) originally rescued the six foxes across Barrie, Collingwood and Midhurst, each one suffering from mange, a skin disease caused by mites. SCEAR captured the foxes, who then got transported to Bear Creek Exotic Wildlife Sanctuary in Essa Township at different times between Aug. 15 and 20. Under their care, staff say they have come a long way. The foxes have been steadily gaining weight, shedding the layers of dead and damaged skin and most notably, their fur is growing back. “There are few things more rewarding in wildlife rehabilitation than looking back at the day an animal arrived and seeing just how far they have come,” staff say in a social media post. The sanctuary says the foxes will stay for a few more weeks to continue gaining weight, rebuilding strength and filling in their new coats.
