If you’re feeling tempted to share your own back-to-school photos, police are offering some eye-opening tips when it comes to posting photos of those you love most. South Simcoe police are reminding proud parents to take a second look at the photo they’re about to share with the world. Firstly, police say to watch out for details in the background of the photo that may reveal personal information. They say to be aware of clothing, signs and captions that would disclose the child’s name, school, regular routines, bus route, neighbourhood or any other personal information. “You can still celebrate the milestone while protecting their privacy,” South Simcoe police say in a social media post. Police advise leaving out their name and name of the school. Instead, they recommend sharing information like favourite hobbies and interests - things that are more generic and non-identifiable. “Share the excitement and not the personal details,” police say.
