Canada’s main stock index finished in negative territory, weighed down by losses in the basic materials sector, while U.S. markets gained ground. The S&P/TSX composite index was down 81.11 points at 35,154.76. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 20.51 points at 50,926.56. The S&P 500 index was up 14.91 points at 7,666.45, while the Nasdaq composite was up 10.53 points at 26,871.60. The Canadian dollar traded for 70.21 cents US compared with 70.48 cents US on Tuesday. The November crude oil contract was up US$2.45 at US$92.87 per barrel.
