A 44-year-old man from Edmonton has been accused of making death threats targeting Prime Minister Mark Carney. Dwight Peter MacIntyre was arrested after an RCMP Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) investigation into social media posts made on X on Sept. 4. MacIntyre was charged with uttering a threat to cause death, which falls under section 264 of the Criminal Code. He is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton on Nov. 25. INSET looks into criminal offences related to terrorism, espionage, cyber attacks, nuclear security risks, foreign influenced activities and other national security issues. “People should not assume they can make threats online without consequences,” Supt. Matt Johnson said in a media release. “Criminal online actions have real-world consequences, regardless of whether they are made behind a screen.”
