A massive ridge of high pressure is pushing into Alberta, which will result in a long stretch of sunshine and above seasonal temperatures for the rest of August. Because of this, it’s a pretty static forecast to report! For Friday, Calgary will hit a seasonal high of 22 C with a whole lot of sun. Basically, copy and paste this forecast for Saturday, but turn up the heat to 24 C and then do that again on Sunday to 26 C, etc. As the ridge builds, we will see temperatures gradually approach 30 C territory by mid-week next week. Long-range models suggest this warm ridge won’t deteriorate much heading into the long weekend, so good news for those with plans to be outdoors! However, it probably goes without saying that with these longer stretches of heat come with an increased fire danger rating. Calgary this weekend will be at a high risk when it comes to ignition of vegetation, so it is imperative folks are both fire smart and sun smart during this warm weather event.
