It’s about to get cool, wet and windy for southern Alberta. Yellow level snowfall warnings are in place for areas in the mountains like Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise as those areas brace for 20 to 30 cm of snowfall over the next 24-48 hours. The same warnings are also in place for parts of central Alberta as this same system could bring 15-25 cm to areas along the Yellowhead. Conditions for Calgary and regions to the south will be less severe, but that doesn’t mean we won’t get a good dose of this winter weather as well. Flurries will begin to fall this morning and could transition to some rain/snow showers throughout the afternoon as the city reaches a high of 2C. Areas like Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Pincher Creek will likely dodge most of the precipitation for today, but this system will linger over the province for several days with on an off flurries likely for much of the province. When all is said and done, models right now are predicting between 10-15 cm of snowfall for Calgary over the next three days. Temperatures take a hit with this system too, with highs below freezing on Wednesday and Thursday. A ridge of high pressure starts to track in later Thursday and that will help us get back into the high-end of the seasonal temperature range just in time for the weekend.
