The final week of May is looking to be a little all over the place when it comes to weather for southern Alberta. On Monday, Calgary managed to get to a high of 26 C with a mix of sun and cloud and winds from the south at 20-40 km/h. Tuesday is shaping up to be another warm one with a high of 27 C and the chance of some late-day showers or thunderstorms. Scattered showers and pop-up thunderstorms could be a daily occurrence for areas in the southwest, while regions to the southeast deal with yellow-level heat warnings. Those areas along the Saskatchewan border under a heat warning will see several days of highs close to 33 C and lows close to 16 C. Calgary is caught in the middle of these two weather scenarios and will see highs in the low to mid-20s throughout the workweek but with the chance of late-day showers and non-severe thunderstorms. Storm intensity appears greater for areas in the East Kootenay and Crowsnest Pass for the next 24 to 48 hours. By Friday, the ridge of high pressure delivering heat to parts of the southeast readjusts to allow more warm air to move into the Calgary area. However, the sunshine will be short-lived, as by the time Saturday rolls in, a low-pressure system will bring light rain and cooler temperatures back to the city for much of the weekend.
