A Kensington burger joint cooked up a thousand meals for the less fortunate Wednesday morning. Flipp’n Burgers staff cooked, garnished and wrapped up the free burgers to say thanks to the city they love. “Four-hundred burgers are for the Drop In Centre, 400 are for the Mustard Seed and 200 are going to be for walk-ins,” manager Jorgji Qiro said. “And after we’re done, a lot of people’s stomachs are going to be full and they’re going to have a smile on their face.” Anyone who was hungry and who passed by the restaurant had the opportunity to grab a free burger. The rest were packaged up for the shelters. Eric McComish, who leads the Mustard Seed’s downtown location, expressed gratitude for the tasty donation. “We do a lot of soup and sandwiches, so having some really awesome burgers is just a nice change,” he told CTV News. “It also takes a lot of pressure off our kitchen staff who are cooking over the holidays and takes pressure off our volunteers.” “It just means the world.” It was the seventh year Flipp’n Burgers has done the Christmas Eve giveback. They plan to do it “as long as people are hungry.” “We want to set a good example,” Qiro said.
