There’s an impressive winter storm system developing over Saskatchewan that will bring messy weather to southern Alberta this weekend. Calgary will still have the excessive winds it saw Thursday, which will be combined at times with heavy snow. This can drop visibility to zero in just moments. The worst of the weather should be east of Calgary, the QEII, and Highway 2, where some of these bands of snow could drop 10 centimetres of white stuff in a short amount of time. This system will pop in and out of Calgary over the next 48 hours. Calgary and Lethbridge will be mainly on the outer edge, so the bad weather shouldn’t be as consistent in these spots over that period. It is most likely we will get two to four centimetres of snow in Calgary on Friday, then another one to three centimetres on Saturday. The winds will ease a little on Saturday, dropping down to 50 kilometres an hour by then. The snow goes away on Sunday, but the cold and clouds will stick around.
