Country star Tyler Hubbard admits it’s tough to pin down the best gig he’s ever played, but the 2022 Grey Cup halftime show in Regina was certainly a highlight. “I believe it was like, 10 below zero or something, and it was absolutely freezing, but I was there with Jordan Davis when he was coming up, and we had a great time. It was an honour to be part of that halftime show, for sure,” Hubbard told CTV News. Hubbard can anticipate warmer weather on June 27 when he performs at Country Thunder in Calgary, opening for Kane Brown. “Kane’s awesome. He’s a good buddy of mine. We’ve toured together a few times for extensive tours. We know each other well and he is one of the best in the business.” Following multi-platinum success with Florida Georgia Line, Hubbard came to a crossroads in his career but scored a No. 1 hit with 5 Foot 9, a song that honours his wife, Hayley, and co-writer Jaren Johnston’s wife. “My wife is actually 5’ 10, so that became a whole thing for a while where I went home and told her about the song I wrote that day and she was like, ‘Well, I’m not 5’9’ and I’m like “Ah well, close enough.’ She was understanding about it,” Hubbard said.
