This isn’t Calgary’s first snowfall of the season, but it will be the first stretch of sustained winter-like conditions for November. A low pressure system is skirting along the U.S. border and it’s bringing cooler temperatures and mixed precipitations to many northern states and wet snow for us in southern Alberta. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued snowfall warnings for the extreme southern part of Alberta with areas like Lethbridge, Milk River and Pincher Creek. Those communities are expected to receive 10 to 15 centimetres of snowfall throughout this morning and early afternoon. For Calgary, the bulk of the snow will fall during the morning hours, with 5 to 10 centimetres expected before we taper off into some light flurries in the afternoon. Once the low passes, another ridge of high pressure (albeit a cool one) will move in and that will provide some stability and sunshine for Tuesday and Wednesday but we will remain on the cooler side of the jet stream so forecast highs will remain below seasonal. Our next winter wallop looks poised to arrive on Thursday when another low pressure system develops in B.C. and will push into southern Alberta late Thursday afternoon, resulting in some evening flurries that will continue into Friday morning before easing off in the afternoon.
