Tickets for some traffic offences committed last spring will be mailed out to Calgarians in the coming days. The 2025 Canada Post labour dispute forced Alberta enforcement agencies to suspend nearly all mail delivery, while negotiations were ongoing. The Calgary Police Service (CPS) temporarily suspended mail delivery of tickets on May 16, 2025. However, following a court authorization, some of these tickets were delivered, but not all. The remainder will soon arrive in mailboxes with a letter explaining the delay, and the steps to be taken to respond to them. Recipients are still able to dispute the offence. Under the Provincial Offences Procedure Act, CPS is allowed to send out tickets within 12 months of the alleged offence date. Those with questions can call the CPS ticket control unit at 403-428-5991, or the specialized traffic enforcement unit at 403-428-4026 (Mon–Fri, 08:00–16:00, excluding statutory holidays). Coaldale cancels ticket backlog Instead of delaying mail-outs, the town of Coaldale decided to temporarily cancel all tickets during job action by its own public sector employees and members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW). In September 2025, officials said no new tickets would be issued through the system and all pending violations would be converted into warnings rather than fines.“We don’t believe it would be fair to residents to issue those fines at this stage.” said Mayor Jack Van Rijn in a news release at the time.
