The last week of January has certainly been a pleasant one weather-wise, and we are just getting started when it comes to above-seasonal temperatures. On Friday, the city reached a high of 10 C with mainly cloudy conditions. Some clouds Friday evening could produce some very light, scattered showers for parts of the city, but the sky will clear overnight, resulting in a beautiful sunny start to Saturday. There could be a few clouds moving in on Saturday afternoon, but overall, it is shaping up to be a gorgeous day for outdoor activities with another high of 10 C and westerly winds at 20 km/h. Areas north of Edmonton are dealing with a different situation. A low-pressure system moving over B.C. is sending precipitation that could result in freezing rain for parts of north-central Alberta, but the southern part of the province will dodge much of the wet weather thanks in part to being on the south side of the jet stream and the Rocky Mountains blocking a lot of the precipitation. Meanwhile, the extreme southwest corner of Alberta was put under a yellow-level wind warning on Friday, as gusts could reach up to 100 km/h. Back in Calgary, positive highs continue straight through next week as a dominant ridge of high pressure really settles in by mid-week with a peak high of 15 C for Wednesday. The temperatures will start to gradually decline after Wednesday, but we really won’t see a major shift into below-seasonal temperatures until around Feb. 11.
