Spectators at Commonwealth Stadium were asked to leave their seats and head to the concourse halfway through Saturday’s Edmonton Elks vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders game. Shelter-in-place protocol was lifted nearly an hour after it first began. Play resumed at 7:40 p.m. Commonwealth Stadium, located in the central Edmonton McCauley neighbourhood, was experiencing light rain, lightning and rolling thunder just before 7 p.m. The city itself was under a yellow watch for severe thunderstorms Saturday night. Last Saturday, 30,000 Post Malone concertgoers at Commonwealth Stadium were also told to seek shelter in the concourse as heavy rain and wind ripped through the area. The city previously told CTV News Edmonton the stadium had recovered well in the aftermath of the storm. This is a developing story.
