Accumulating snow is looking more and more likely for the Edmonton area. As I wrote and talked about Monday, there was a chance that all the snow stayed east and west of the city. But, it appears that dry slot between the snow zones will be a bit further west. How MUCH snow we get in the city is still a bit uncertain, but I think we’ll have at least one or two centimetres on the ground by Wednesday morning and maybe as much as four or five centimetres. The bulk of the accumulation should come overnight, but there’ll still be some occasional flurries and pockets of snow in the area through the day Wednesday. Heavier snowfall (5-10 cm) is likely in parts of east-central and northeast Alberta. We’ll also see some heavier snow (maybe 10-15cm) in parts of the foothills and mountain parks. Temperatures will hover just slightly below 0 C overnight and through Wednesday, so roads will initially be wet and then slick/icy by the Wednesday morning commute. Prepare for a slow drive Wednesday. The snow should end late Wednesday, but we’ll stay cloudy through Thursday in Edmonton. Some sunshine will break through the clouds for Friday/Saturday. Cooler air will linger through to the end of the week with mornings in the -5 C to -10 C range Thursday through Sunday. Afternoon highs should be around 0 C right through the weekend. Here’s the forecast for Edmonton and area: Today - Mostly cloudy. 40% chance of flurries in the afternoon.
