A food delivery driver has been charged with sexual assault after an incident in Fort McMurray earlier this year. On May 16, Wood Buffalo RCMP got a report that a person had been sexually assaulted at their home after opening the door to receive a food delivery. The delivery person was not identified at the time the report was made. Through witness statements and security video, police were able to identify a suspect, and on Saturday, a 34-year-old man from Fort McMurray was charged with sexual assault. The accused was released from custody on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 23. Police are offering the following tips to people to prevent similar incidents: “We recognize incidents of this nature can be concerning for members of the community,” Staff Sgt. Sabrina Clayton said in a news release. “While this appears to be an isolated incident, we encourage residents to remain aware of their personal safety and to report any suspicious or concerning behaviour.” Anyone who has experienced a similar incident or has information about this case is asked to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
