A 15-year-old Huron County boy is expected to learn his fate in a first-degree murder case this December. The young boy, who cannot be named under the Youth Justice Act, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the stabbing death of an 11-year-old girl in Holmesville in July 2024. A psychiatric assessment, which was supposed to be completed by now, has been delayed until mid-November, delaying sentencing. The maximum sentence for a young offender convicted of first-degree murder is 10 years. Six years in custody, and four years served in the community. By December, the 15-year-old suspect will have served nearly two-and-a-half years in custody, which would automatically come off his sentence. Sentencing in this case is anticipated to happen Dec. 14 to 17 in Goderich.
