City officials say there’s been another delay in opening a micro-shelter community near the 401 and Highbury Ave. Although the community of micro-shelters on Cheese Factory Road supposed to open this weekend, the city now says the site won’t be ready for occupancy until some time next week. Last Friday, city staff led a tour of the soon-to-be completed facility in a farm field where 50 prefabricated structures for single individuals and 10 designed for couples will eventually house 70 people currently living unhoused. The intent is to provide an opportunity for unhoused Londoners to stabilize before progressing into more traditional housing. The mayor originally aimed to have the facility open before the end of 2025, and mild weather in early January revised a mid-January opening date. The date was then revised again because of harsh weather conditions Officials gave no reason for the most recent delay.
