CTVNewsOttawa.ca looks at what’s open and closed in Ottawa for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Observed annually, the day is meant to recognize and bring awareness to residential school survivors, their families, communities and those who never came home. The National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, is a statutory holiday for federal government workers and federally regulated industries, but it is not a statutory holiday in Ontario. Transit OC Transpo bus and train service will run on a normal weekday schedule. Para Transpo service will operate regular service. Rural Shopper Route 303 will run. The Rideau Centre OC Transpo Customer Service Centre will be open from 9:30 a.m to 9 p.m. The OC Transpo Lost and Found at St. Laurent Station will be closed. Garbage collection Curbside green bin, recycling, garbage or bulky item collection will follow the normal collection schedule. Collections of multi-residential garbage, recycling, bulky items and green bins will follow the normal collection schedule. The Trail Waste Facility Landfill will be open. City of Ottawa The City’s 311 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters only. Service Ottawa’s Client Services counters and phone lines will be closed. The Provincial Court and Administrative Penalty System Hearing area located at Mary Pitt Centre (100 Constellation Drive) and the supporting counter and phone lines will be closed. The Business Licensing Centre at 735 Industrial Avenue will be closed. The City of Ottawa Spay and Neuter Clinic at 26 Concourse Gate will be closed. The City of Ottawa Archives at the James Bartleman Centre will be closed. Parking All city parking regulations apply. Libraries Seven Ottawa Public Library branches will be open to provide a “National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Learning and Action Space.” The following branches will be open from 10 a.m to 5 p.m.: Regular hours will return Thursday. Other city services All community, recreation and cultural facilities are open. City operated museums will be open. Pinhey’s Point Historic Site and Fairfields Heritage House are now closed for the season. Shenkman Arts Centre will be closed. Meridian Theatre @ Centrepointe remains closed due to flood damage. Ottawa Public Health’s satellite clinics, dental clinics and parenting drop-ins will be closed. All four employment and social services offices will be closed. All municipal child care centres will be closed. Service Canada/Service Ontario All Service Canada and Service Ontario locations will be closed. Schools Schools will be open Wednesday. Canada Post There will be no Canada Post service on Wednesday. Canada Post offices will be closed, but post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business. Banks Banks will be closed on Wednesday. Malls and grocery stores Most malls and grocery stores will be operating on regular hours. The LCBO will open at noon. Museums Most museums in the national capital region will be open and are offering free admission. Many museums are offering various activities to mark the day.
