Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says there are no reasonable grounds to believe a London police officer committed a criminal offence after a 16-year-old boy was bitten by a police dog in July. The incident happened July 5, 2026, after police received a report that two masked males had broken into a property near Quarrier and Pelkey roads, the SIU said. The two attempted to flee and hide from police. An officer and police dog arrived to help locate them. One of the males surrendered, while the other tried to run away and ignored police commands. The police dog knocked the teen to the ground and bit his left thigh. SIU Director Joseph Martino found the officer’s decision to use the dog was reasonable, saying it increased the likelihood of capturing the teen while temporarily placing him in a compromised position and reducing the risk he posed as officers moved in to arrest him.
