An officer has sustained minor injuries in a dangerous driving crash in Hanover. On Sunday just before 2 a.m., Hanover Police tried to stop a vehicle on 4th Avenue, near 9th Street. An officer approached the vehicle, and the driver allegedly drove away at a high rate of speed. An officer deployed a spike belt, the vehicle didn’t stop for a stop sign and hit a second responding police cruiser head-on in the 100 block of 10th Street, police said. The vehicle then continued eastbound down 10th for several blocks before the suspects got out of the car and reportedly ran. A short foot chase led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Haldimand County man, and a 23-year-old Cambridge woman shortly after. The police officer involved in the crash was treated at hospital and later released. The suspects weren’t hurt and both vehicles sustained significant front-end damage. Hanover police said both suspects were subject to bail conditions, which didn’t allow them to have contact with each other. The driver was also allegedly suspended from driving and was impaired by alcohol and drugs, with open alcohol in the vehicle. Several charges have been laid against the man, while the woman faces one charge.
