If you are among those returning home on a Bixi only to be frustrated because the three vacant spots at the docking station are out of service, broken or covered with a hood, you’re not alone. Bixi told CTV News the ride-sharing non-profit is “observing acts of vandalism at certain stations across the network.” “This is an issue that BIXI takes very seriously, and several measures are being implemented to limit its impact on the service provided to users,” the company said. Bixi said it does not share which locations are affected or the number of vandalism acts to minimize the impact and avoid contributing to the problem. However, Bixi said it is deploying a range of responses to the problem. “Stations that are repeatedly targeted may, in some cases, be relocated,” the company said. “We are also working closely with the SPVM, and files are regularly opened to support investigations and pursue those responsible.” Bixi added that it is testing other preventative measures to reduce vandalism and limit service disruptions.
