A man is dead after a fire in an apartment building in Montreal’s Saint-Leonard borough. Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday about the incident on d’Avila Street near de Choisy Street. “On the scene, police officers met with paramedics that explained that upon their arrival, resuscitation efforts were performed,” said Johany Charland, a spokesperson with Montreal police. The man, aged 73, was confirmed deceased on site. “According to the first information, the fire was not criminal in nature, but rather accidental,” Charland said. The damage was contained to a single apartment. A security perimeter has been established to allow investigators to determine the causes and circumstances surrounding the incident.
