An 18-year-old man is in hospital after crashing a car into a school in Laval, north of Montreal, early Thursday morning. According to Laval police (SPL), patrol officers attempted to halt a vehicle that committed a Highway Safety Code infraction at 3:25 a.m. The force would not elaborate on what the offence was. Police state that the driver fled the scene, and officers chose not to pursue him. They later located the vehicle near Concorde Boulevard. According to the SPL, the vehicle drove over a sidewalk barrier, crossed a park and crashed into a tree before colliding with an exterior wall of École Charles-Perrault, a private elementary school. “He was taken to the hospital to treat some non-life-threatening injuries,” said Laurent Arsenault, a spokesperson with Laval police. The school’s structure did not suffer any damages, according to police. Laval police says its road reconstruction team is on site to analyze the scene, and officers intend to speak with the driver once he is able to submit to an interview. École Charles-Perrault officials confirmed on social media that due to “exceptional circumstances,” the school would be closed on Thursday.
