Thunder Bay police charged two men – including one with eight thefts – after a rash of shoplifting incidents in the city’s downtown. Police received several reports of shoplifting involving the same suspect from a business on Main Street, police said in a news release Tuesday. “Officers reviewed surveillance video footage of each incident and were able to identify a suspect,” police said. “Shortly after 12 p.m. Oct. 26, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody after attempting another theft.” A 49-year-old man faces eight counts of theft under $5,000 and one count of failure to comply with a probation order. The accused has been remanded into custody following an initial court appearance. While at the same location, officers witnessed a second man attempting to steal items from the store and attempted to run away, police said. The man had a release order with a condition to not attend the business. A 51-year-old man was charged with theft under $5,000, resisting police and failure to comply with a release order. The man is still in into custody following an initial court appearance.
