A man in his 20s is dead after a fiery two-vehicle crash in Ottawa’s southwest end. Emergency crews responded to the crash on Fallowfield Road near Old Richmond Road at approximately 12:45 a.m. Ottawa Fire Services spokesperson Nick DeFazio told CTV News Ottawa both vehicles were on fire when firefighters arrived on the scene. A Honda CRV was fully engulfed in flames, while there was a fire in the engine compartment of the second vehicle, according to DeFazio. The two vehicles were approximately 25 metres apart following the collision. Ottawa paramedic spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps tells CTV News Ottawa the driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. The man driving the other vehicle was transported to hospital in critical condition, according to Deschamps. The man was out of the vehicle when emergency crews arrived on the scene. The Ottawa Police Service continues to investigate the crash. “Police are asking anyone with information about the collision, or who may have cameras on their property or dash cam that may have captured the incident, to come forward,” police said in a media release Wednesday morning. DeFazio said firefighters used thermal imaging cameras and police deployed the canine unit and a drone to search the area for any possible victims that may have been ejected from the vehicle. Fallowfield Road was closed in both directions between Eagleson Road and Old Richmond Road while police investigated. This is the second serious collision in the area of Fallowfield Road and Old Richmond Road in just over a week. On Sept. 1, a vehicle crashed into a hydro pole. Police said the driver was being treated for life-threatening injuries.
