Drivers will soon no longer need to display a receipt on their dashboard at city-operated parking lots and at on-street parking spaces, as the City of Ottawa rolls out new kiosks. The city says it is “modernizing” its paid parking system with the introduction of new Pay-by-Plate parking kiosks at on-street sparking spaces and city-managed parking lots and garages. Instead of being required to display a receipt on your dashboard, parking payments at the Pay-by-Plate kiosks will be directly linked to a vehicle’s licence plate. “The new kiosks also offer more ways to pay. In addition to coins, customers can use debit tap, credit tap, Apple Pay or Google Pay,” the city said. “The Pay-By-Phone app will continue to be available.” Pay-by-Plate kiosks Here is how the new Pay-by-Plate kiosk will work: City crews will begin installing the approximately 660 new kiosks on Monday and will take up to five months to complete. The city says the new Pay-by-Plate kiosks will be installed in city-managed parking lots first, with on-street locations upgraded through the spring of 2027. There will be no changes to parking rates or hours of operation for parking spaces.
