A 33-year-old Alberta man is facing several charges after Regina police seized about 3.5 kilograms of fentanyl during a drug trafficking investigation. The Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT) began investigation in July after receiving information about a man allegedly involved in drug trafficking in Regina. The investigation expanded to include the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) in Lloydminster, Alberta which received similar information about the suspect. On Aug. 27, the Crime Reduction Team, Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team, and the Tactical Support Team arrested the suspect without incident. Police say officers searched the suspect and his belongings and seized 3.5 kilograms of fentanyl, an airsoft pistol, brass knuckles and $350 in Canadian currency. Police claim the seizure prevented 35,000 single doses of illicit fentanyl from reaching Regina streets with an estimated street value of $350,000. The suspect faces four charges, including possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of drug trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, weapons possession and failure to comply with a release order. He made his first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Aug. 28
