Mounties seized over 2,000 pounds of cannabis during a traffic stop near Maple Creek earlier this month. According to Saskatchewan RCMP, the seizure took place on Sept. 4. The RCMP’s roving traffic unit stopped an eastbound vehicle travelling on Highway 1 for a violation of provincial vehicle equipment regulations. An RCMP news release stated officers found roughly 1,928 pounds of dried cannabis, 56 pounds of hashish and 15 litres (about 30-34 pounds) of THC resin inside the vehicle. As a result, the 56-year-old man from B.C. who was driving the vehicle was arrested. He told officers he was travelling from B.C. to Ontario. The man has been charged with one count of possession of illicit cannabis for the purpose of distribution, two counts of possessing illicit cannabis derivative for the purpose of distribution and one count of possessing the proceeds of crime under $5,000. He’s scheduled to appear in court in Maple Creek on Jan. 14, 2027.
