A section of 34 Street will be closing until late fall as the city replaces the Fulton Creek culvert in an effort to prevent flooding in the area. Starting the week of Sept. 14, 34 Street between Roper Road and 64 Avenue will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians to allow crews to work safely. Detours will be accessible via Roper Road, 50 Street and 76 Avenue. Businesses along 34 Street can still be accessed from the north and south. The west shared-use pathway in Pylypow Wetlands Park connecting to the 34 Street parking lot will be closed. Crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday with weekend and overnight work as required. The existing culvert and roadway will be removed and crews will install a concrete replacement, repave the road, restore landscaping and improve the road shoulder. The new culvert will accommodate potential road widening. The city says the culvert has been in place for nearly 70 years and must be replaced to maintain proper drainage and prevent flooding.
