Former Saskatchewan Roughrider Charleston Hughes has been announced as an inductee into this year’s Canadian Football Hall of Fame. The American defensive end played 14 seasons in the CFL, finishing his career with 136 total sacks – good for fifth all time. Hughes led the CFL in sacks five times, earned six All-CFL selections, eight CFL West All Star nods and won two Grey Cups (2008, 2014). He earned two of his All-CFL selections as a member of the Green and White. Hailing from Saginaw, Mich., Hughes spent the first decade of his career in Calgary before getting traded to Saskatchewan. He played three seasons with the Riders in total, interrupted by a brief stint with the Toronto Argonauts. Additionally, he was named Calgary’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player three times (2013, 2016, 2017) and Saskatchewan’s once in 2019. According to the team, Hughes will be the 38th former Rider to be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame as a player. He’ll join Brandon Banks and Sean Millington as Class of 2026 inductees. The remaining inductees are expected to be revealed at a later date. The induction ceremony is scheduled for the evening of Sept. 17.
