RCMP in-custody death under investigation by Sask. police watchdog

Saskatchewan’s police watchdog has been deployed over an in-custody death in southeastern Saskatchewan.

According to a brief update, the incident happened near Kipling. Other details on what happened are expected to follow.

The Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is an independent, civilian-led unit responsible for investigating serious incidents involving police, including in-custody deaths or serious injuries.

This is the third time the organization has been deployed in 2026.

Kipling is located 154 kilometres southeast of Regina.
