Residents in the rural municipalities (RMs) of Shellbrook and Duck Lake are returning home after the evacuation notice for the area was lifted. The Lobstick Fire, which was initially threatening the communities is now 80 per cent contained, according to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency. This development means that the 53 residents and patients of the Parkland Integrated Healthcare Centre are returning to the facility in Shellbrook, after a pre-emptive evacuation took place over the weekend. Additionally, the roughly 130 residents across 70 households in the RM of Shellbrook are heading home. Both the RMs of Shellbrook, Duck Lake, and the Hamlet of Holbein are on alert for changes as crews work to contain the rest of the Lobstick fire, which spans nearly 19,000 hectares. Meanwhile, the Cayford Fire has spread to cover 11,500 hectares. This uncontained fire is located south of Red Earth Cree Nation, and many of those in the area gave been forced to evacuate to neighbouring communities.
