At least 62 people have been killed in crashes on Saskatchewan RCMP-patrolled roads this year, according to RCMP data provided to CTV News. As of July 30, officers responded to 51 fatal collisions on roadways policed by the Saskatchewan RCMP. RCMP also shared new impaired-driving statistics and urged motorists to make safe choices ahead of the August long weekend. According to RCMP, in 2025 officers responded to 113 serious and fatal motor vehicle collisions involving impairment by alcohol and/or drugs, the highest number recorded in the last 10 years. “There has been a steady upward trend since 2016, when Saskatchewan RCMP responded to 58 serious and fatal motor-vehicle collisions involving impairment,” said Superintendent Grant St. Germaine, officer in charge of Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services. RCMP say impaired-driving statistics do not include collisions that occurred in other police jurisdictions, on private property, off-road or as a result of medical emergencies. Police say officers work to reduce impaired driving through check stops, proactive road safety initiatives, daily patrols and educational events. Saskatchewan RCMP laid 1,650 criminal charges for impaired driving last year, and suspended the licences of 2,270 drivers for consuming alcohol or drugs before getting behind the wheel. RCMP are reminding motorists to wear seatbelts, avoid distractions, obey speed limits and plan a safe ride home if consuming alcohol or cannabis.
