All eastbound express lanes on Hwy. 401 in Scarborough were closed for most of Monday afternoon following a single-vehicle collision involving a delivery truck. The closure went into effect at around 11 a.m. after the truck struck a guide rail on the highway. All eastbound express lanes were closed between Neilson and Meadowvale avenues while police investigated at the scene. The highway didn’t reopen until 3:30 p.m. Ontario Provincial Police say that the 62-year-old driver of the delivery truck was taken to hospital following the crash where he was pronounced dead. OPP say that a sudden death investigation is underway. The eastbound collector lanes remained open during the closure but CP24 traffic specialist Sonia Sache said that traffic was “absolutely slammed” starting at Markham Road.
