Residents of two homes have been displaced, and a firefighter has been hospitalized after a fire sparked in a Port Coquitlam neighbourhood on Sunday morning. Photos from the scene show smoke billowing upward from two adjacent homes on Langan Avenue, near Pitt River Road. Port Coquitlam Fire and Emergency Services responded with more than 20 firefighters and an aerial ladder truck at around 10 a.m. and fought the fire defensively from outside. At around 2 p.m., Deputy Fire Chief Jason Marshall said the fire was under control, and its cause was under investigation. “Firefighters remain on scene conducting overhaul and checking for hot spots to ensure the fire is fully extinguished,” he said. One firefighter was hurt during suppression efforts and transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Marshall said the firefighter has since been cleared and will soon be released from medical care. The city told CTV News that RCMP victim services have been engaged to assist those displaced by the fire. “I want to thank our fire crews for their quick response. Their professionalism and courage keep our community safe every day. Our thoughts are with everyone affected, and the city will be there to support our residents through the recovery process,” Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West said, in a statement.
