A two-day, intelligence-led enforcement operation in Kamloops earlier this month has led to more than a dozen arrests, along with the seizure of drugs and firearms. Kamloops RCMP say they applied for funding from British Columbia’s Special Investigations and Targeted Enforcement Program (SITE), and were able to offer specialized training to 10 officers. The province first launched the SITE program in 2023, aimed at helping police departments combat repeat offenders. On July 3 and 4, the Kamloops Proactive Enforcement Team targeted drug trafficking, violent offenders, property crime and individuals with outstanding warrants. Mounties say they arrested 16 people and seized more than a kilogram of drugs. They also recovered multiple firearms, including a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, as well as a replica firearm. Bear spray, brass knuckles, batons, knives and an axe were all among the 16 dangerous or prohibited weapons also seized. “This operation demonstrates the value of intelligence-led policing and proactive enforcement in disrupting criminal activity and improving public safety,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley, officer in charge of the Kamloops RCMP detachment, in a news release Wednesday. “The significant quantity of drugs, firearms and weapons removed from our community highlights the effectiveness of KPET officers with targeting those involved in organized criminal activity.”
