A novice driver had her Tesla impounded after she was clocked going more than double the posted speed limit on B.C.’s Coquihalla Highway. The B.C. Highway Patrol highlighted the incident in a social media post Monday, saying a 32-year-old woman was going 149 km/h in a 60 km/h construction zone—describing the rate of speed as “appalling.” The woman was ticketed for excessive speeding and had her vehicle impounded for seven days, which Mounties said left her on the hook for roughly $2,300 in total. “At least she wasn’t asleep,” the B.C. Highway Patrol’s post said, alluding to recent incidents in which Tesla drivers have been spotted seemingly snoozing behind the wheel while their vehicles were in self-driving mode.
